So why music? Why jazz? Why vocals?

I discovered my love for jazz while playing trumpet in big bands throughout middle and high school. After some time away from making music, I returned and found a deep love of singing. I’ve loved exploring all the ways my musical knowledge from trumpet can inform and shape my singing.

My focus on live vocal performance in the past few years has allowed me to step out of the role of a section player and into that of a bandleader. This has led me down a path of growth and self-discovery, one that has intertwined my musical and personal development with something more genuine, more accepting, and more free.

I’m less interested in simply “performing” music than I am in using it to explore different expressions of myself, to be fully present, and to hopefully create the space for others to do the same. I believe jazz is the perfect vehicle for this with its focus around improvisation and collaboration. Through music, I intend to create spaces for presence, authenticity, connection, and fun.
